THE FUNDS HAVE RUN OUT: Speaker Johnson Sounds the Alarm on Filibuster to End Shutdown!

Speaker Johnson & Agriculture Secy. on Day 31 of Gov’t Shutdown Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins held a news conference on day 31 of a federal government shutdown. They claimed Democrats were not telling the truth that funds for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program could be accessed through a contingency fund, claiming it wasn’t legally possible to use the fund without a continuing resolution, and that the fund was insufficient to pay for November SNAP benefits. Also, Speaker Johnson pushed back against President Trump’s call to end the filibuster to reopen the government, saying the filibuster was “a very important safeguard,” though he also said his own opinion on the issue was “not relevant.
