WHAT WE KNOW:
U.S., Greenland, and Denmark reached a new Arctic security agreement.
Trump said the deal gives the U.S. permanent control over security-related concerns in Greenland.
The agreement would block U.S. adversaries from establishing bases, military presence, or making sensitive investments in Greenland without U.S. approval.
The U.S. plans to begin developing a larger military presence in Greenland.
Greenland and Denmark said the agreement recognizes Greenland’s self-determination and Denmark’s sovereignty.
The deal still requires approval from Greenland’s and Denmark’s parliaments.
Officials expect the agreement to be formally signed during the U.N. General Assembly summit next week.
