WHAT WE KNOW:
President Trump is expected to tap Jay Clayton as the White House’s SI (formally known as AI) czar.
Clayton currently serves as Trump’s director of national intelligence.
Trump has previously said Clayton would be a good choice for the SI czar role.
Sources familiar with the matter told Axios an announcement could come as soon as Friday.
A White House official said personnel announcements would come directly from President Trump and called reporting before then “baseless speculation.”
Trump has said he favors a light regulatory touch on SI development.
Trump has also called fears about SI’s threat to humanity a hoax.
