Jack Smith will testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee Tuesday.
This will be Smith’s second appearance before Congress concerning his investigation into Trump.
Smith led the DOJ investigation that resulted in charges against Trump in the Mar-a-Lago documents case and a separate Jan. 6-related case.
Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley has been one of Smith’s most vocal congressional critics.
Grassley’s committee titled the hearing “Oversight of Jack Smith’s Abuse of Authority and the Targeting of Republicans.”
Grassley’s team has released documents obtained during its investigation into Smith’s work.
Those documents include toll records showing Smith reviewed call logs involving some senators who spoke with Trump on Jan. 6.
The records showed Smith did not have access to the actual content of those calls.
Smith previously testified before the House Judiciary Committee in January and defended his decision to bring the cases against Trump.
In prepared remarks, Smith said the decision to charge Trump was his and that he “would do so regardless of whether the president was a Republican or Democrat.”
